Reaching age 40 is not easy for a woman. At this age, there are so many different things that women have to deal with from the aging wrinkles to the extra, unwanted pounds in addition to a number of other challenges including needing a new wardrobe because those 30-something-year-old outfits just won’t do any longer.

When women reach age 40, their bodies are not the only things that have aged as their bones have also aged. Therefore, the bones need to be taken care of appropriately during exercise. For example, the best workouts for women over 40 are low intensity and modified workouts.

Here are the best workouts for women over 40 years of age:

• Walking – Aside from the fact that you don’t have to pay for a gym membership to take part in walking, it is one of the safest exercises for women over 40. In addition, this is by far the most natural way for any individual to burn calories. Walking can provide a number of health benefits including but not limited to enhanced heart function, stress reduction, muscle strengthening, enhanced respiratory health, back pain reliever and the control of diabetes.

• Swimming – Swimming can be relaxing and fun aside from a great way to improve overall body strength and muscle endurance. The bones are kept healthy and the body fit when swimming is performed at least 20 minutes per routine. Don’t have a pool? Try your local YMCA or fitness club.

• Aerobics – To improve the overall health and strength of your body while also creating healthy heart function, aerobics are the perfect exercise for a woman at age 40 or above. This includes light dancing, aerobic steps, etc. This should not consist of anything too extreme or too rough on the body.

• Biking – This is a very low intensity, low impact exercise that can strengthen your bones and muscles. You can ride on a stationary bicycle within your home or at the gym or you could choose to ride an actual bicycle at a local park or around the block. Whatever choice you make, bicycling is a perfect way to tone and shape your body while making sure that you aren’t over doing it. Plus, biking is a perfect way to deal with your knees – especially if you have osteoarthritis.

Being age 40 or over, one of the most important things that you should in mind is to never, ever over-exert yourself performing exercises. Make certain that you are well hydrated, motivated and comfortable.

Why Weight Loss is Harder for Women Than Men

You’ve probably heard – or learned the hard way – that women have more difficult losing weight than the opposite sex. Thats why so many women are using a Medifast coupon code, buying Atkins bars or taking other weight loss supplements. Many people seem to believe that it is because of hormones; however, that’s not entirely true. In fact, there are physiological reasons to why men lose weight and fast easier and quicker than women. Here are four explanations to why weight loss is harder for women than men.

Women Have Less Muscle

As a woman, you simply have less muscle than your husband, brother and any other man. The fact that men have more muscle than women allow for them to burn more calories than women resulting in quicker weight loss. Men can even burn more calories at rest than a woman can.

Women’s Bodies Don’t React as Quickly to Exercise

For whatever reason, women’s bodies are unable to react as effectively and as quickly as a man’s body when it comes to exercise. The woman’s body will enter into a mode of starvation, if you will, which causes their metabolism to not necessarily come to a halt but to definitely slow down. This ends up resulting in more fat being stored for later use rather than that fat being burned.

Women are Made to Store and Preserve More Fat

To be put simply, if women want to lose the same amount of weight as a man then they have to work harder at doing so. You can’t workout for the same amount of time each week at the same pace as a man and expect to lose the same amount of weight as him. It’s not possible. The reason for this is because of the fact that estrogen levels are higher for a woman than a man. For educational purposes, estrogen is a hormone that works to maintain the stored fat to make it easier for a woman to become pregnant.

Women Likely Have a Smaller Overall Tolerance for Exercise

As a woman, if you’ve ever worked out alongside a man, you may have noticed that you wore out faster than he did although you were performing the same exercise at the same velocity. The reason for this is because women’s lung capacity is known to be smaller than that of a man’s lung capacity making a woman feel as though they are working harder even though they are not.

No one ever said it was fair, but men simply lose weight quicker than women. The best way to get past this is to push it out of your mind. Don’t let yourself dwell on the fact that others can lose weight quicker than yourself. To lose weight effectively and successfully, it is best not to ever compare yourself to anyone – same sex or opposite sex. Each and every individual will lose weight differently due to habits, hormones and inherited genes.
