Ann
L. Wagner
Co-Chairman,
Republican National Committee
Chairman, Missouri Republican Party
Ann
Wagner is a vibrant symbol of a new generation of Republican women
young, energetic and influential visionaries who are increasingly leading
the way to important victories for the Republican Party. She was unanimously
elected Co-Chairman of the Republican National Committee in Washington,
D.C. on January 18, 2001, carrying with her an impressive list of critical
Republican victories.
It
was Anns relentless pursuit of a strong grassroots strategy in
Missouri that enabled the Republican presidential ticket to carry the
Show-Me State for the first time in twelve years. In addition, the grassroots
plan, coupled with an unprecedented level of involvement by the Missouri
Republican Party in congressional races, allowed Republicans to gain
a House seat in Missouri. These victories played a critical role in
putting the Republican Party where it hasnt been in 56 years:
in control of the White House and both chambers of Congress.
Its
a truly historic time in Missouri, as well. Republicans control the
Missouri Senate for the first time in 52 years and hold a majority of
the states congressional delegation for the first time in half
a century.
Ann
is serving her second term as Chairman of the Missouri Republican Party.
She was reelected by acclamation on January 6, 2001. Ann is the first
woman to head the Missouri GOP. Because of her strong belief in grassroots
politics, she continues to hold the position of Republican Committeewoman
for Lafayette Township in West St. Louis County.
A
longtime Party activist, Ann served as the GOP's Director of the House
and Senate Redistricting Commission in 1991. Her successes in that process
have enabled the Republican Party to gain numerous seats in the Missouri
Legislature. She served as the Missouri State Executive Director of
the Bush/Quayle Campaign in 1992, the 2nd Congressional District Chair
of the Dole for President Campaign in 1996 and as an advisor for the
Ashcroft for Senate Campaign in 1994. Ann has substantial experience
in raising money for a variety of campaigns.
Ann
is a common-sense conservative who values teamwork and a strong, pro-active
grassroots organization. In 1998, Ann was recognized at State Lincoln
Days as the Republican of the Year. She fully understands that winning
elections is the first and most critical step toward shaping public
policy.
Ann
is a graduate of the University of Missouri-Columbia where she earned
a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration in 1984. She attended
college on a vocal music scholarship. Ann held management positions
at Hallmark Cards in Kansas City and Ralston Purina in St. Louis before
entering Republican politics.
Ann
is married to, Mr. Ray Wagner, an executive with a major St. Louis based
corporation. The Wagners have three children: Raymond III, Stephen and
Mary Ruth.
